Add some excitement to the dreary months of winter with these eight makeup trends hot off the fashion week catwalks.
While the fundamental matte red lip and smokey eyes made their appearance across models faces, there were plenty of fun and flirty new looks to push the boundaries this year.
Which will you try?
Velvet skin
The strobing make up trend has been tossed aside in favour of healthy, matte skin on the red carpet this season. This look not only looks flawless under any light (or in front of flashing cameras!) but pairs extremely well with matte lips and black mascara.
Achieve a perfect application by first preparing your skin with a hydrating face mask, oil-absorbing toner and moisturiser on your T-zone. Follow with light weight foundation, focusing on the areas which need the most coverage, without being too heavy handed.
FInishing with a dusting of translucent powder and you are ready to take on the world.
Matte Red Lips
Nothing is more fierce than rocking a red lip, with this bold winter beauty staple a feature on the Paco Rabanne, Louis Vuitton and Helmut Lang catwalks.
Our stylists recommend Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics in Rodeo Red for a creamy yet definitive matte finish. Enriched with Vitamin E, this vibrant shade glides on smoothly and stays put for hours.
Smokey neutrals
Soft, blended out smokey neutrals featured on eyelids, cheeks and lips at Tom Ford, Max Mara and Elie Saab.
A toned down version of a high glam smokey eye, this look is perfect for day-to-day wear.
Dewy lips
Lip-gloss lovers will rejoice, as the dewy-lipped look is heralded in for the season by Badgley Mischka, Christopher Kane and Adeam.
Graphic eyes
While this is a more experimental look, floating flicks were a hit across multiple shows, including Dior, Moon Young Hee and Giambattista Valli.
While some looks were definitely a little too much for everyday wear, the floating framed look is worth incorporating into your repertoire this season.
Glitter
Glitter is here to stay. Keep your stockpiles from the festival season and inject some fun into your winter styling with a little (or a lot!) of sparkle.
Flush of blush
Minimalist make-up with a flush of blush caused a stir on the Aigner, Chanel and Dolce and Gabbana catwalks, for a soft and fresh faced look. Add a rosy glow to your cheekbones with Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics best-selling Mineral Radiance Blush in Splendour.
Bold neon
Easily the brightest beauty trend of 2019, pops of neon can give you a lift even on the gloomiest of days.
Shots of neon colour brightened up eyes on the catwalks of Guy Laroche, Carolina Herrera Anna Sui, Civindi and Natasha Zinko, and featured heavily on the Met Gala red carpet.
Whether it is a vivid green flush in the inner corner of your eye, electric blue lashes, a hot pink wing or a vibrant orange flush of eye-shadow, this look is all about experimentation. After all - fashion and self-expression is meant to be fun.
