After months of hibernation, dry skin and frizzy hair, the warmth of spring is ready to embrace and revitalise our bodies.
The change of the season beckons a change of routine; while winter had us layering on serums, balms and oils, it is now time to prepare our skin for the sunny days lying in wait.
Out with the old, in with the new
Take the time to spring clean your collection of products, as some may be past their use-by date and may cause irritation, rather than having the desired effect.
Exfoliate
It is time to shed that dry, dull and flaky skin caused by the cold weather with some gentle exfoliation. Exfoliating your face and body will reveal a fresh layer of skin, having removed the dead surface skin cells. It will also allow your skin to better absorb other skin care products in your routine.
We recommend ASAP’s daily exfoliating facial scrub which is formulated to dramatically improve the appearance and texture of skin. Biodegradable, non-plastic exfoliating beads combined with AHAs, gently remove dead skin cells to promote a smoother, more radiant looking skin.
Add in SPF protection
As we head outside to soak up the beautiful weather, it is important to give our skin protection from sun damage. This is crucial for maintaining your skin’s health, as well as stopping premature ageing.
ASAP has created a daily moisturising sunscreen which protects your skin from UVA/UVB rays. It contains Zinc-Oxide for broad spectrum physical protection and Hyaluronic Acid to increase skin hydration, while helping reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also includes Niacinamide, which works to prevent pigmentation and promote elasticity.
Opt for a gentle cleanser
Rich red lipsticks, dark eyes and heavy foundation applications will be left behind with winter’s cold, as dewy skin, peaches and pinks become staple looks for the season. With this in mind, switch over to a lighter cleanser which will gently remove make-up without clogging pores, while leaving the skin hydrated.
For a delicate cleanser with light exfoliation, pick up DermaQuest’s Essential Daily Cleanser.
This product gently draws dirt, makeup and impurities from the skin, while the papaya and pineapple enzymes leave your complexion perfectly polished. It is also ideal for those with aha/bha sensitivities.
Hydrate!
It is just as important to hydrate your skin from within during spring time by drinking plenty of water. By adding extra ingredients to your water bottle each day, you will not only discover the added benefits to your body, but it will make staying hydrated even tastier. Lemon and mint can help to aid digestion, while cucumber possesses anti-inflammatory properties. Discover more recipes here.
Swap heavy coverage foundation for lightweight alternative
Your makeup choices are just as important as your skin care regime when it comes to your skin health. Ensure you are choosing mineral makeup which forgoes parabens and mineral oil. One of our team’s favourites is Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics’ loose mineral foundation.
The superior formulation of 100% pure minerals dramatically improves the look of any complexion, creating amazing, seamless coverage for your skin that can be applied in seconds.
The lightweight flagship formula works to highlight the best in your skin. The unique blend of crushed mineral powders adds luminosity and is exceptionally lightweight.
It is imperative to take the time to remove all makeup properly at the end of the day by cleansing and washing your face.
Eye cream
Invest in your future skin by adding a quality eye cream to your routine. As the skin around your eyes is thin and delicate, regular moisturisers can often be too rich, causing milia and whiteheads.
DermaQuest’s C Infusion Eye Cream brightens, hydrates, protects and energizes skin without causing irritation. The revitalizing effects of peptides like eyeliss and matrixyl help to reduce dark circles and increase circulation to improve the function of the delicate skin under the eye.
Lighter moisturiser
While you were likely to have a heavy duty moisturiser on hand for dry winter skin, Spring is likely to bring humidity, which can leave you feeling greasy. During the warmer months our skin actually holds onto more water, which means you don’t need as much hydration. Avoid oily skin by swapping to a lighter lotion.
Exercise
Getting out into the fresh air and partaking in regular exercise is also great for your health and skin. Exercise improves blood flow and circulation, which helps to flush out toxins stored in the body. By working up a sweat, the pores in your skin open up and expel dirt and oil, but be sure to thoroughly cleanse your face after your session to reduce breakouts.
